Similarities between human body and clay/soil
The Quran mentions that Allah created humans from clay or earthly materials, and modern science shows that there are remarkable similarities between the elements found in clay and the human body. Here’s what they have in common:
- Basic Elements
Both clay and the human body share essential elements, such as:
Carbon
Hydrogen
Oxygen
Nitrogen
Calcium
Potassium
Magnesium
Iron
These elements are crucial for the structure and functioning of the human body, and they are also found in the soil.
- Water Content
Clay, like the human body, contains a high percentage of water.
The human body is about 60-70% water, while clay absorbs and holds water, making it moldable.
- Nourishment and Life
Clay provides the minerals and nutrients that plants need to grow, which humans then consume.
The human body depends on the same minerals for survival, showing a shared origin and interdependence.
- Moldability
Both clay and the human body are moldable. Just as clay can be shaped into various forms, the human body begins as a malleable embryo before forming into its final shape.
- Decomposition
After death, the human body decomposes and returns to the earth, completing the cycle:
“From it (the earth) We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time.” (Surah Taha 20:55)
Islamic Perspective:
Allah’s choice of clay as the material for creating humans reflects a deep connection between humans and the earth, emphasizing humility and our dependence on the Creator. It’s a reminder of our origin and ultimate return to the soil.
